The inspection software for amusement and fairground rides

Octav helps inspection bodies, inspection companies and amusement parks track every ride, complete the inspection report point by point and keep annual or three-yearly due dates. One platform for the ride file, the report and the relationship with the operator.

Why Octav

A solution designed for amusement ride inspections

A ride is inspected before it is put into service, then every year or every three years depending on its category, and again whenever a defect calls for a re-inspection. Octav brings the ride identification, the checklist, the safety work, the photos and the report together in a single tool.

01

Annual or three-yearly: no more guessing the due date

Every three years for categories 1 and 2, every year for categories 3 and 4: two rhythms across one fleet is exactly what a spreadsheet lets slip. Each ride family carries its own interval and Octav computes the next due date, ride by ride.

02

A report rated point by point

Blocking, structure, guides, gondolas, public access, control station, braking, electrics, gas: every point gets its own rating — favorable, observation, not applicable or re-inspection — and the report builds itself as the visit progresses.

03

Re-inspections never fall through the cracks

A defect that compromises safety makes the return to operation conditional on a repair, then on a re-inspection. Points rated CV, the work requested and the follow-up all stay attached to the ride concerned.

Industry features

Octav features for amusement rides

Octav helps you describe every ride, rate the checklist, record safety work and hand the operator a readable report as soon as the visit ends.

An identity record for every ride

Manufacturer, type, ride name, year, number of units and passengers, minimum age, footprint, registration, operator, category, power source and voltage: the ride is described once, then reused at every visit.

A checklist in 13 families

More than forty inspection points, from blocking to gas installations, each rated F, O, SO or CV. A summary counts the points in each state at the top of the report.

Safety work to be carried out

The work required before the ride goes back into operation is ticked in the report, along with the safety class and the inspector's comment.

A dedicated checklist for inflatables

Inflatable play structures have their own checklist, built on the EN 14960 standard: the category of the equipment decides which checklist opens at inspection time.

PDF report generated on closing

Cover page, ride identification, rated checklist, conclusion, required work, photos and operating conditions: the report comes out complete, under your company's branding.

Configurable categories and intervals

You adjust ride families, their inspection interval and the associated checklist to match your activity, without touching the settings of your other sectors.

The report

A ride inspection report, point by point

A ride inspection report is more than a pass-or-fail box. Octav follows the logic of the trade: a checklist organized by families, a rating for every point and a conclusion that follows from them.

Four ratings

Every inspected point gets its own state, not just a yes or a no.

  • FFavorableThe inspected point shows no anomaly.
  • OObservationAn anomaly is recorded and described, without stopping operation.
  • SONot applicableThe point does not concern this type of ride.
  • CVRe-inspectionThe defect requires a repair followed by a new inspection.

Regulation

Ride inspections in France: what the texts require

In France, the safety of rides, machines and installations for funfairs and amusement parks rests on law no. 2008-136 of 13 February 2008, its implementing decree and the orders of 12 March 2009. The EN 13814 standard is the technical reference.

InspectionWhenReference text
Initial technical inspectionBefore the ride is put into serviceDecree no. 2008-1458 of 30 December 2008
Periodic inspection — travelling rides, categories 1 and 2Every three yearsOrder of 12 March 2009 (travelling rides)
Periodic inspection — travelling rides, categories 3 and 4Every yearOrder of 12 March 2009 (travelling rides)
Periodic inspection — rides permanently fixed to the groundEvery one to three years depending on categoryOrder of 12 March 2009 (fixed rides)
Re-inspectionAfter repair of a defect that compromises safety, before returning to operationDecree no. 2008-1458 of 30 December 2008

The technical inspection is carried out or verified by a body approved by the State. The operator keeps a technical file for each ride — category, characteristics, inspections, repairs and maintenance — and displays the name of the inspection body and the date of the last visit.

Octav is not an inspection body: it is the tool you use to perform, record and report these inspections. For equipment used at work, see our page on periodic inspection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about amusement ride inspection software

Amusement ride inspection software should handle the identity record of each ride, a checklist rated point by point, safety work, re-inspections, annual or three-yearly due dates and the report handed to the operator. Octav brings these together in a single platform, with a dedicated rides module and a report designed for this trade.

French law no. 2008-136 of 13 February 2008 requires an initial technical inspection before a ride is put into service, then periodic inspections. For travelling rides, the order of 12 March 2009 sets that inspection every three years for categories 1 and 2 and every year for categories 3 and 4. Rides permanently fixed to the ground fall under a separate order, with an interval of one to three years depending on their category. Octav applies the interval you assign to each ride family.

French law states that the technical inspection is carried out or verified by a body approved by the State, at the operator's expense. Octav is not an inspection body and grants no approval: it is the tool the inspection body or in-house inspection service uses to perform, record and report its inspections.

Each point of the checklist gets one of the four ratings used on French ride inspection reports: F for favorable, O for observation, SO for not applicable and CV when a re-inspection is required. Octav uses these four states and shows their count at the top of the report, ahead of the overall conclusion.

Yes. Inflatable structures have a separate checklist built on the EN 14960 standard. The category of the equipment decides which checklist opens at inspection time: a mechanical ride and an inflatable do not share the same points.

Yes. The report is filled in on a tablet, a smartphone or a computer: rating the points, observations, photos, safety work and conclusion. Closing the report and generating the PDF are done online.

Yes. A dedicated Excel import brings in your rides with their characteristics — manufacturer, type, year, category, operator — and the list can be exported again at any time. The Octav team supports you through the migration.

Ride families, their interval and the associated checklist are set from your own settings. For a type of equipment that fits none of the existing checklists, a custom checklist can be added on quotation.
