The inspection software for airport ground support equipment

Octav helps inspection bodies, ground handling companies and airport equipment departments inspect every piece of ground support equipment, run their campaigns airport by airport and keep the due dates of vehicles and lifting accessories alike. One platform for the fleet, the report and the relationship with the operator.

Why Octav

A solution designed for airport equipment inspections

Container loaders, catering trucks, PRM vehicles, tractors, ground power units, slings: an airport fleet mixes very different equipment, spread over several airports and only available between two turnarounds. Octav brings the fleet, the checklists, the campaigns, the photos and the reports together in a single tool.

01

One campaign per airport, one report per vehicle

At an airport, you never inspect one vehicle: you inspect dozens, between two turnarounds, whenever they are available. Octav opens the campaign once, filters the equipment by airport and produces a separate report for each vehicle.

02

Six or twelve months: no more guessing the due date

Under French rules, a catering truck that lifts its crew is inspected every six months, an ordinary lifting appliance every twelve. Both rhythms run across one fleet: each family carries its own interval and Octav computes the next due date, vehicle by vehicle.

03

Lifting accessories stay on the radar

Slings and accessories move from one vehicle to another and from one airport to another. Tracked in batches, with their own due date, they no longer slip through between two campaigns.

Industry features

Octav features for ground support equipment

Octav helps you file every vehicle, open the right checklist at the right airport, track lifting accessories and hand the client one report per vehicle as soon as it is closed.

Dedicated ground support equipment families

Ground support equipment is filed under its own airport families, kept apart from your other sectors. Each family carries its own inspection interval and checklist.

One checklist per type of vehicle

A container loader, a catering truck and a baggage tractor are not inspected on the same points: the family of the vehicle decides which checklist opens at inspection time.

Inspection campaigns by airport

The campaign is opened at client level, then filtered airport by airport: the inspector only sees the equipment of the site they are on, without creating one job per vehicle.

Slings and lifting accessories tracked in batches

Slings, spreader beams, shackles and webbing straps are tracked in batches, each with its own inspection due date, alongside the vehicles they serve.

One PDF report per vehicle

Vehicle identification, inspected points, observations, photos, conclusion and signature: the report comes out under your company's branding and joins the vehicle's history.

Bringing in your existing fleet

The fleet is imported from an Excel file — fleet number, type of vehicle, make, airport — and the Octav team supports you through the migration.

The scope

What an airport inspection campaign covers

Not all ground support equipment falls under the same rules. Vehicles that lift a load or people are lifting appliances; the others are inspected against the checklist chosen by the inspection body. Octav files each one in its family, with the matching checklist and due date.

Regulation

GSE inspections in France: what the texts require

In France, a piece of ground support equipment that lifts a load or people is a lifting appliance. Its periodic inspection falls under articles R4323-23 to R4323-27 of the Labour Code and the order of 1 March 2004 on the inspection of lifting appliances and accessories.

The inspection is carried out by a competent person, who may or may not belong to the company, and its results are recorded in the safety register. That person assigns each vehicle to its category, and therefore to its interval. The EN 1915 and EN 12312 standards on aircraft ground support equipment are the technical reference for the design of the vehicles.

Octav is not an inspection body: it is the tool you use to perform, record and report these inspections. For lifting equipment outside airports, see ourlifting equipment page, or our page onperiodic inspection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about GSE inspection software

GSE inspection software should handle a fleet spread over several airports, one checklist per type of vehicle, slings and lifting accessories, two inspection rhythms — six and twelve months — and one report per vehicle handed to the client. Octav brings these together in a single platform, with families and checklists dedicated to ground support equipment.

A piece of ground support equipment falls under the periodic inspection of lifting equipment (VGP) as soon as it lifts a load or people: container and pallet loaders, catering trucks, PRM vehicles, aerial work platforms, forklift trucks. Vehicles that tow or supply power, such as tractors and ground power units, are inspected against the checklist chosen by the inspection body and the manufacturer's instructions.

The French order of 1 March 2004 sets the periodic inspection of lifting appliances at twelve months. It drops to six months for powered appliances that carry people or lift a workstation, and for the appliances listed in its article 20, including forklift trucks. Lifting accessories are inspected every twelve months. In Octav, each equipment family carries its own interval.

In Octav, the campaign is opened at client level, then filtered airport by airport: the inspector finds the list of vehicles on the site they are working on, opens the checklist of each one and closes its report. Every vehicle keeps its own report in its history.

Yes. Slings, spreader beams, shackles and webbing straps are tracked in batches, each with its own annual inspection due date, alongside the same client's ground support equipment.

Yes. The fleet is imported from an Excel file — fleet number, type of vehicle, make, airport — and the Octav team supports you through the migration of your data.

No. The periodic inspection is carried out by a competent person, who may or may not belong to the company. Octav inspects no equipment and grants no approval: it is the tool the inspection body or the equipment department uses to perform, record and report its inspections.

Equipment families, their interval and the associated checklist are set from your own settings. For a type of vehicle that fits none of the existing checklists, a custom checklist can be added on quotation.
